Clarecastle Community Development Ltd (CCDL) was delighted with the announcement yesterday evening that Clare County Council had agreed to provide a maintenance grant for two years to assist 29 playgrounds in the County with ongoing annual maintenance charges. Clarecastle Community Playground will be one of the beneficiaries of the scheme and as such will be eligible to apply for assistance to help cover insurance cover, financial auditing, safety assessments and routine maintenance works. In the short-term, this will help relieve the pressure on CCDL and the Community as a whole to find the entirety of the funds to cover these costs which typically can amount to €2,000 to €3,000 per annum.
In recent months, CCDL had joined with other Clare playgrounds and together with them was actively involved in the lobbying process to convince the Council that assisting Community groups in the form of a maintenance grant would be an excellent use of resources. CCDL was delighted that efforts paid off and that the Council agreed unanimously to sanction the grant scheme for the next two years. The Council recognises the work that local community organisations have undertaken to establish community playgrounds throughout the Clare and will continue to support them where it can.
